Origin of Species and Genesis Paragraph
The style of genesis is flowing and repetitive. It is very easy to follow and sounds like it is a tale. The story begins with "In the beginning." This line sounds like the beginning of a story that is meant for children. The line sets the time frame of the story by explaining how there was a specific point in time where earth began. The phrase "let there be light" helps explain how powerful god is and how definite his powers are. "And there was light" confirms God's powers helps explain unexplainable phenomena. Genesis is not a very scientific writing because it only states that God created the things on earth, but does not explain at all how those things came to be, the effects, and details. Darwin's 'The Origin of Species' on the other hand is a very scientific and philosophical text questioning ideas brought forth by Genesis. Darwin uses reason to explain natural phenomena. Naturrally, he is cautious in his work and does not want to offend other's beliefs: "Although I am fully convinced of the truth of the views given in this volume under the form of an abstract, I by no means expect to convince experienced naturalists whose minds are stocked with a multitude of facts." Darwin is as sure with his findings as the writers of Genesis appeared to be with theirs, but Darwin's main goal is not to convince others of his work, but rather make it available to the public. Unlike Genesis, Darwin also talks about the future and not just the past. He states how his findings could change the field of naturalism forever.
